Complementary Colors & How to Wear Them

Complementary Colors & How to Wear Them –

If you know the color wheel then you know that colors directly across from one another are called complementary colors. Which means that they naturally go together nicely, or complement each other. Most people wouldn’t wear red and green together for fear of looking to Christmas-y. Well, red and green are complementary colors so you can start small and where pieces that aren’t the star of the show. For example, my green tank and red heels are on opposite ends of my body so it just works.

Complementary colors are any two hues positioned exactly opposite each other on the Basic Color Wheel. (source)

Wearing an old Hollister jacket over a Topshop tank. My denim are by one of my favorite brands, BDG. The red heels are from Zara and lastly my bag is by Dana Buchman.

You can try this tip with any colors you like. You can also use different shades of those colors and get the same effect. Yellow and violet is a beautiful pairing! Try a pretty daffodil colored dress with purple pumps, it would look fantastic! What are some of your favorite color pairings?
