A Chic and Feminine Way to Wear Stripes This Summer –
A few weeks ago, Chandler and I took a long weekend to New Orléans. We were there for 4 nights but these photos were taken after the second night, so documenting the trip isn’t really going to be in order. I really wanted to share this outfit though as stripes whether horizontal or vertical are a huge staple in any woman’s closet but most likely they are worn in a more masculine way. Today I am sharing a feminine way to wear stripes featuring items from a few of my favorite brands in clothing, jewelry and shoes!
Before we get into my outfit though I wanted to share one of the things we did this day in New Orléans. After checking out of this amazing and trendy hotel called Loft 523 we had some time to kill before checking into our next hotel. Unfortunately parking is a bitch and I had a serious craving for crepes, and no, I am not pregnant. A quick Google search sent us to the DeVille Coffee House & Creperie on Magazine St. Lucky for us parking is so much better in the Lower Garden District. This place was so cute but I recommend ordering something other than a chai latte to drink, it was super watered down and completely unsatisfying, though I should add they may not always taste that way. Where they sucked at my chai latte they excelled at the crepes. Above is what Chandler ordered, it’s called the Alamo and is made with eggs, house made salsa, cheddar, tomato, sautéed onion and green peppers. It was so delicious and I know this because I obviously stole a bite, or two. I however love sweet crepes and they had one on the menu that sounded way too good to pass up. The Lucy (photo is two down) has strawberries and powdered sugar on top but was filled with, wait for it, amaretto custard! OMG, I just drooled all over my keyboard. It was the best crêpe I have ever had but the one thing I dislike when ordering crepes is that one order never seems to be enough. Maybe I should have ordered two? Now I know. Has anyone ever been there? If so what did you think? If you haven’t I highly recommend you check it out!
See how delicious the Lucy crêpe looks. Now I need food! Anyway let’s talk fashion shall we? The most beautiful and feminine way to wear stripes is to add a necklace that screams chic and womanly like this gorgeous Balon necklace from Robyn Rhodes. I first discovered Robyn Rhodes jewelry in a RocksBox I received a long time ago and have been in love with her designs ever since. Here’s a post wearing one of my favorite RR rings. Now it turns out The Bachelorette JoJo is also a huge fan. Check out this page for some very cool designs worn by JoJo herself and get them or anything else you like 15% off using code RACHEL15. I, myself am partial to the Jinifer ring, so beautiful!
The stripes and shirt style of this dress make for a more masculine garment but one of the feminine ways to wear stripes is make sure your add-on accessories are of the more womanly variety. I already touched on how adding a chic necklace helps but the rest of what I am wearing here also contributes to a more feminine look. When wearing stripes heels or the more popular footwear trend of the season, lace up sandals and a beautiful handbag also contribute to feminizing your stripes. How do you usually wear your stripes? Masculine touches or feminine? A mix of both like I am wearing here?
Before I sign off on this post I wanted to point out that these shots were taken in the lobby of Loft 523. This hotel is very cool and so amazing and also very private. I have another post coming showing you our amazing room but check out how cool this painting is below. There are a lot of British design elements in this hotel and I can’t wait to show you more!
I am wearing a striped midi dress by The Fifth Label (one of my favorite labels from down under) with this beautiful Robyn Rhodes Balon necklace. I also added on a Zara handbag, Coconuts by Matisse sandals (also here and here), and sunglasses from Target.
