How Not to Start the New Year –
Happy 2017! Can you believe 2016 has come and gone? I want to tell you how not to start the New Year, because I know. I have been very slow getting back in the grind of things since school restarted last Wednesday. That was my first excuse, “Oh, the New Year will start for me once the kids go back to school”. Eh! Wrong! Granted they were only in school for 2 days and then the snowstorm hit us here in the South. And then I told myself, “So what if the kids are home, I can still get plenty done”. Wrong again. If like me you’re a huge procrastinator then you have also probably used every excuse in the book. Social media breaks, family time (when really you’re just binge watching a new show you found (Chance, I like Chance), etc. These things are how not to start 2017. I have finally decided on a New Year’s resolution, 2017 is the year my procrastination stops and I start to really get things done. 2016 was a year of a few ups and a few downs both personally and professionally. For some reason I never sat down and defined my goals, plans and resolutions, so it’s hard for me to say I achieved anything when I didn’t clearly set out things to achieve. Does that make sense? So this year I am doing what I didn’t in 2016, I am setting both big and small goals but I am going to touch on that in a different post though. Besides, I have a few things I want to show you for kicking ass in 2017. Definitely keep an eye out for that as well as my post on the Vampire Facial which is up next. In the meantime, I want to share what I wore on Christmas as well as a few new favorite pieces.
One thing I am really into lately is tights. I think normal adult women call them pantyhose but I am just not a huge fan of that name. Is it just me? Anyway, this pair by Berkshire has a gorgeous diamond print that definitely adds some visual interest. I also have a new pair of fishnets and thigh-high’s with a garter that I am looking forward to wearing. They definitely add a hint of sex appeal to whatever you’re wearing which is always nice.
Recently I discovered a new favorite place to get trendy necklaces and I swear I’m the last person to find out about them. 7 Charming Sisters is behind the very cool one I’m wearing below. It has an awesome leather strap that’s adjustable which I am obsessed with. They have a really fun quiz to help narrow down your style because their selection is huge! They also carry amazing earrings, bracelets and other accessories. Speaking of, how cute is this little star ear cuff? It’s from Maude which you may remember from past posts like this one. I really love their boho selection but they also have classic pieces like the black cami I’m wearing here. You would think a simple, v-neck cami would be easy to find but it wasn’t. So happy I finally came across this one!
Last but not least, I am a huge fan of Cuyana. Their amazing, classic selection and the “Fewer, Better Things” philosophy they live by is amazing! I actually wrote a post wearing one of their silk dresses last year. They believe in quality over quantity and style over trends. Cuyana’s line is the perfect place to start when building a capsule wardrobe or when your closet needs a refresh. I had been on the hunt for the perfect oversized, gray chunky knit and Cuyana delivered in spades. This piece will last and is so comfortable I will be wearing it for years to come. I only wish the weather stayed cooler a bit longer here because I also got one of their infinity scarves in a classic camel- so soft and so beautiful! Definitely check them out when you need to update a classic item in your closet and when you want it to last.
