Salon U – The Best Salon in Birmingham – I previously mentioned that I was going to be getting my hair done before the Southern Blogger Society Conference in Charleston but at the time I was still a bit indecisive on which way to go. Since I have been growing my hair for what seems like ages I briefly considered a lob (long bob) but my husband would kill me and I know I would have regretted it.
Then I found this girl on Instagram with seriously enviable hair. It’s long (extensions) but the color is so cool- this white blonde that I have always wanted to try at least once but I don’t think it would work with my coloring. Plus, it would take a lot of time to get hair that light and not to mention the damage my hair would endure! So I looked to my next Instagram hair icon- Rocky (Rachel) Barnes. God I love her! Besides being unbelievably gorgeous this chick has the best hair color and texture. The perfect beach waves and ombre color that from past experience I know works with my skin tone so my decision was made.
As for where to go, well that was easy. When I first moved here to Birmingham almost 2 years ago I opened an issue of Elle Magazine that listed the top 100 Salons in the US and there was one in Birmingham and it is called Salon U. I came for a haircut shortly after the move and loved the place. Super cool interiors, blow dryers that hang from the ceiling, stylists that are so cool you just want them to be your new best friend. But because I have a Florida cosmetology license I’m not one to get my hair done that often but for what I had in mind I knew going to a pro would be in my best interest.
I contacted the salon and spoke with Anna (the blonde behind the desk below) who is super nice, so cool and is probably a model on the side. She hooked me up with Alison, my new hair stylist. Again, there seems to be a theme here, Alison is a beautiful leggy blonde with gorgeous hair and serious skills. She was happy to hear I decided to keep the length and I showed her picture after picture of Rocky. Alison decided an ombre achieved with the balayage technique would get me there and I’m so happy to say it did. After she toned and trimmed it, including taking some weight away from my DIY bang job (a regret for sure), she blew it dry, did a little dry cutting and curled it for me and I seriously love my hair right now.
How cool is Alison?! Love her boho outfit of cute swing dress and booties and especially love her necklace! I have been considering contacting the company about maybe carrying them in our shop. It’s by The Giving Key and each key has 1 of 15 inspiring words (or you can have one custom-made). The idea behind these necklaces is to wear it and embrace the message on your key until you meet someone who needs that message more than you do and you pass it on. It’s just such a cool idea. I kind of got off track there but below you can see my finished do and the first pic up top is the “before’.
Wearing House of Holland sunglasses that I am borrowing from DITTO. Basically the idea behind DITTO and their Endless Eyewear option is that for $19 a month you can borrow a pair of designer sunglasses, keep them for as long as you want and then swap them out for a new pair. And if you sign up and enter the code “Handbag”, you will get your first month free! It’s such a cool idea and my next pair are on the way now, so excited!
As for the rest of my outfit I am wearing a Jenny Bird necklace, a Jungmaven t-shirt, McGuire Denim, Zara heels and a Luv Aj x SCF belt that we carry in our store. Which BTW is 60% off everything (!) until the end of the day on Monday, July 6th with code “starsandstripes”. If you read this after you can still use code “IMBACK25” for 25% off the entire site. I hope everyone is having a fun and safe Independence Day weekend and if you live in the area and need a good salon/ hair stylist, Salon U and Alison are highly recommended.
