Happy Humpday! This post is going to be a long one but today I want to tell you all about the Vampire Facial, what to expect and how I feel about the results. So I hope you stick around. You may remember I did a similar post on what to expect when getting Botox for the first time. I’m sure you have all heard of the Vampire Facial thanks to Kim Kardashian but those images are a definite exaggeration. It is not super bloody like the photos depict. Keep reading to see more photos, what my skin looks like now (I’m not wearing any makeup so be gentle!) as well as my video (at the very bottom) taken by Seiler Skin that will show you exactly how the procedure goes.
Before I get into my procedure I want to share a post Dr. Seiler of Seiler Skin here in Birmingham, AL wrote. “Scars are one of the most frustrating aesthetic issues because treatment methods are, at best, sparse. Whether someone bears acne scars from days of youth, or stretch marks caused by pregnancy or extreme weight fluctuations, scarring—on any area of the body—can be very embarrassing. These insecurities are, unfortunately, preyed up by companies who market skin creams with exaggerated claims of efficacy, when in reality, most of these over-the-counter products have infinitesimal effect.
As a cosmetic laser surgeon and certified provider and trainer on the Vampire Facial®, I’ve seen firsthand this procedure’s remarkable results. The main reasons for the Vampire Facial’s® rapid growth in popularity are twofold. First, it transforms the skin and creates a vibrant, glowing and youthful look with minimal downtime required. Second, the procedure has incredible non-traditional applications in the treatment of scars, including acne scars, stretch marks and scar contractures from wound-healing processes. The outcomes are extremely encouraging and exciting for patients and providers alike.
The secret ingredient to the Vampire Facial’s® scar-healing power lies in the extraction and separation of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) from the patient’s blood. PRP is a concentrated source of platelets, growth factors and cytokines that occur naturally in the body, and are key factors in the healthy regenerative processes occurring constantly in your cells. To get the PRP, a very small amount of blood is drawn from the arm and spun in a centrifuge to separate it from the red blood cells using an FDA-approved sterile system.
Once obtained, the PRP is applied topically to the scarring site using a process called micro-needling. For more damaged areas, the PRP is injected deeper into the scar tissue to heighten its rejuvenating effects. At Seiler Skin, we use a medical-grade micro-needling pen, which creates tiny micro-channels in the skin to stimulate collagen remodeling and allow absorption of the PRP. Our patients experience minimal discomfort throughout the entire procedure because we use a medical-grade numbing cream. For an in-depth look at what the Vampire Facial® experience is like at our practice, you can watch a full video of the Seiler Skin team performing the treatment HERE.
After treatment, patients can expect 12-24 hours of mild redness, with the possibility of minimal swelling. This is typically not noticeable the following day. Generally, patients can go to work or partake in other daily activities the next day and no one will know he or she had an aesthetic treatment performed. Our team will recommend an individualized post-procedure skin care regimen using medical-grade products to ensure the absolute best results and healing time possible. Depending on the severity of the patient’s scarring, multiple treatments may be necessary to permanently resolve the issue(s).
As a cosmetic laser surgeon with experience using aggressive lasers to treat these conditions, it’s extremely rewarding to finally be able to offer a solution to patients suffering from unwanted or embarrassing scars that produces great results and does not require significant downtime. We’re only beginning to understand the wide-ranging cosmetic implications of the Vampire Facial®, but it’s safe to say this treatment’s future looks very bright!

So as you can see in the photos my face isn’t at all bloody like many expect. It was a fun and interesting experience! You will see most of this in the video but here’s how my experience went. I spoke with Dr. Seiler and his amazing assistant about what most bothers me about my skin. I have large pores, fine lines around my eyes, dark spots, uneven skin tone and some light breakouts. They explained that the Vampire Facial will help with all but my dark spots but that after one session my skin’s results can take up to 3-6 months to reach its full potential. For the actual procedure they start by giving me a super comfortable robe and a cute headband for my hair. They then applied a medical-grade numbing cream to my face which they let sit for about 30 minutes. Let me tell you, that stuff is awesome! It felt weird and very cool at the same time. “I can’t feel my face when I’m with you”, come on guys, you know the song. Anyway, while the numbing cream sat they drew a vial of blood from my arm. The vial was then put though a centrifuge to separate the red blood from the Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP, Seiler Skin likes to call it liquid gold. The PRP is the good stuff applied topically while they do the micro-needling procedure. The numbing cream worked wonders as I didn’t feel any discomfort though I was red for about 2 days. The whole procedure takes about 2 hours. At this point my pores are noticeably smaller and there’s a slight glow to my skin. But the results are only going to get better with time so the Vampire Facial is something you should definitely look into. If you live in or near Birmingham give Seiler Skin a call, I promise you will love it! Up next in my skin care procedure series is a post on injectables!
